Summer Update

06/22/2024 Women In Aviation Greater Los Angeles Area Chapter Event

We had a fun summer kickoff event partnering with Planes of Fame and WAI Greater LA Area Chapter.

Attendees toured Planes of Fame and then walked over to tour our hangar.

The WAI event then continued with a tour of this lovely L-39 Albatros flown in by pilot Stephanie Goetz for the event.

Academy volunteers got to view the L-39 up close too! “Shaka!”

We headed back to Planes of Fame for a panel on Women In Aviation moderated by WAI Chapter President, Melissa.

It was a great day of celebrating some great women who have chosen to excel and thrive in their aviation journeys!

Thank you to WAI Greater LA Chapter President, Melissa and Academy volunteer Shayla for planning an excellent event. It was a pleasure for the Academy to open its doors and meet some young women who are already soaring in the aviation industry and some who are just starting out.

This month we are interviewing Shayla.

Academy Volunteer Interview

  1. “How did you hear about the Academy?”

After volunteering for the Girls in Aviation Day at the Corona Airport, I went into Spruce for an Aeronautical Chart. While there, I met a guy named Roscoe who told me about the amazing opportunities at the Academy. I followed him to the hangar and the rest was history.

  2. “When did you start volunteering with the Academy?”

I started volunteering in September 2023

  3. What’s your favorite thing about the Academy?”

Learning how to take care of planes with an ownership mentality all while being supported in a family-like environment.

  4. “Do you want to be a pilot?”

Yes! It is a new passion that I am excited for.

Thank you to all our hard-working volunteers and donors that help us keep the planes flying.

Stay tuned for next month’s update and when in Chino, come on over!
