Another great weekend of aviation for all of us.
Friday started with a flight lesson for Jeff in the 150, he is nearing 250 hrs for his commercial checkride. Dustin Mosher stopped by in the afternoon and helped clean and wash the Chipmunk, which of course then went flying! Jeff and Tiphani also finished replacing the trim cables in the champ. We had an old veteran of our program, Bailey Black move in his toolbox and immediately started helping on the Champ. Meanwhile Keegan has been inching closer to soloing with every flight, reviewing emergencies with Zack in the evening.
Saturday Tiphani and Jeff began work in earnest on the champ. Bailey and Dave Pavey removed, inspected and cleaned the exhaust, while generally cleaning up and organizing things forward of the firewall. Dave is an Air Force veteran with thousands of hours flying C5's, he hopes to pass on his wisdom to the next generation and also earn his tailwheel endorsement! Keegan and Adam sanded and varnished the floorboards for the champ. Meanwhile Matt spent the day doing fabric repair to the fuselage, and cleaning up after us. Tucker cleaned and gapped the spark plugs, thanks Tucker! Johnson and his kids, Daniel and Joanna sanded and prepared the rudder for paint, removing the cracked clear coat and faded paint. Andrew also made progress on sheet metal repairs for our Luscombe project.
We also took all the planes flying, Keegan and Zack in the 150, Jeff and Bailey in the Luscombe and Tiphani and Dave in the Chipmunk. Bailey and Dave both are new to taildraggers!
The day ended with Zack, Christy, Keegan, Bailey,Jeff, and Tiphani washing the bug-smashed 150, then going out for a great sushi dinner.
Thank you to everyone who has come out to work on the airplanes. We are having a tremendous time and thank everyone for supporting us at calaeroacademy.org.
