Summer 2023 Update

Summer of 2023 has been the most successful months of our organization.

At present we have helped Craig Coffin get his newly minted CFI, Craig has since been training several primary students in our Cessna 150G. You rock Craig!

Updates on projects:

  • The Tiger has successfully come through annual and has taken its first flight under our care. We’ve performed all the Airworthiness Directives, installed ADS-B and repaired and replaced composite fairings and wing tips. The Tiger will be a huge asset for our organization and we hope to use it to take pilots to the coming airshows.

  • The Taylorcraft BC-12D, progress has been made by stripping the fuselage bare of fabric and all internal components. The tubing has been painted in anticipation of the new fabric envelope for the fuselage. Old metal parts have gotten repairs, and have been paint stripped in anticipation for new paint to be applied. Wood repairs have been done to the fuselage stringers.

  • The T-28, The Trojan is a long term project, but recently had a significant milestone of running it for the first time in over 10 years. The run of the T-28 has informed us of the repairs we will need to do. This includes a complete overhaul of the carburetor and prop. Donations are needed!

  • The Cherokee has returned from the avionics shop with a full glass cockpit and autopilot. We are fortunate for our sponsorship from Leading Edge Avionics for this airplane! We hope to have it flying in a month or two after we finish the annual, new interior install, and have the fuel tanks returned from overhaul. Leaky tanks are no good!

Looking forward to the future:

October will be full of Airshows, come see us at Apple Valley, Santa Maria, and Long Beach!

The academy has worked together to create a plan and direction for our future. Please take the time to check it out!
